TB Treatment-Seeking Behavior

چکیده
Ruixue Guo and Sze Suen CS229: Machine Learning, Dec 2012 Background For this project, we looked at a dataset containing tuberculosis (TB) symptoms, symptom onset time, and time until treatment was sought for 1691 non-urban households in Bihar, India. All households had at least one household member who was being treated for active TB disease. We are interested in identifying the relationship between an individual’s characteristics (such as disease symptoms an individual experienced) and the time it took for the individual to seek treatment. This could potentially guide health education programs that support timely identification of disease cases to prevent transmission. We first cleaned and prepared the data, explored some basic statistics to get an intuition for the dataset, then used several algorithms to see if we could accurately predict the time of seeking treatment, and, more importantly, use the algorithm outputs to identify reasonable characteristics of patients that sought care quickly. The methods we used were logistic regression, PCA, K-means clustering, and SVM. These results are presented below.

متن کاملKnowledge, care-seeking behavior, and factors associated with patient delay among newly-diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis patients, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria, 2010
INTRODUCTION Early treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) cases is important for reducing transmission, morbidity and mortality associated with TB. In 2007, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria recorded low TB case detection rate (CDR) of 9% which implied that many TB cases were undetected. We assessed the knowledge, care-seeking behavior, and factors associated with patient delay among pulmonary T...

The objectives of this study were to describe the health care seeking behavior of TB patients, assessing patient delay and the number of health care facilities visited before the start of TB treatment. A cross-sectional study was carried out with adult patients with pulmonary TB presenting to two TB facilities to s...
متن کاملHealth-seeking behavior among HIV-infected patients treated for TB in Thailand.
In Asia, patients increasingly seek tuberculosis (TB) treatment in the private sector; however, few private sector practices follow international TB management guidelines. We conducted a study to measure the frequency and predictors of seeking TB diagnosis in the private sector among 756 HIV-infected TB patients in four Thai provinces during 2005-2006. Of enrolled patients, 97 (13%) first sough...
متن کاملKnowledge, Health Seeking Behavior and Perceived Stigma towards Tuberculosis among Tuberculosis Suspects in a Rural Community in Southwest Ethiopia
